Sana Mir Biography: Wiki, Age, Height, Boyfriend, Family & More

Sana Mir is a former Pakistani cricketer, commentator, and one of the most respected names in women’s cricket. Born on 5 January 1986 in Abbottabad, Pakistan, she became a right-arm off-spin bowler and a reliable lower-order batter. She represented Pakistan from 2005 to 2019, captained the national team in ODIs and T20Is, and played 226 international matches in her career. In 2025, she became the first Pakistani woman to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, cementing her place in cricket history.

Controversy

Sana Mir

In September 2025, Sana Mir faced a controversy during her commentary stint at the Women’s World Cup 2025. While covering the Pakistan vs Bangladesh match, she referred to cricketer Natalia Pervaiz as a player from “Azad Kashmir”, a term used by Pakistan for the Indian region of Jammu & Kashmir illegally occupied by Pakistan.

Her remarks triggered a huge uproar on social media, with many accusing her of making a political statement on live TV.

Sana Mir’s Clarification

Later the same evening, Sana Mir issued a clarification on her social media handles. She explained that her comment was not political and was based on details available on ESPNcricinfo, a platform she often uses for research. She stressed that her intention was only to highlight the challenges players face when coming from remote regions of Pakistan.

In her words:

“It is unfortunate how things are being blown out of proportion. My comment was only meant to highlight the journey of a player. As commentators, we try to tell stories of players’ struggles and achievements. There was no malice in my heart or any intention to hurt sentiments.”

Despite her explanation, the remark remained a point of heated debate online, further fueled by the strained cricketing ties between India and Pakistan following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

The controversy put Sana Mir at the center of headlines once again, showing how even respected sports figures can be drawn into sensitive political issues.

Early Life & Career

Sana Mir
