Karishma Kotak was born on 26 May 1982 in London, England, into a Gujarati Indian family. Her father is from Gujarat, while her mother is from East Africa. She attended a boarding school and later completed a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Marketing. She initially planned to become a teacher.
Karishma started modelling at the age of 16 in the UK. She worked on magazine shoots, fashion campaigns and projects for brands such as FCUK and Toni & Guy. She also worked as a television presenter in the UK before moving to Mumbai in 2005 to explore opportunities in India.
Her career in India grew after she was selected for the 2006 Kingfisher Calendar, photographed by Atul Kasbekar in Australia. She later appeared in advertisements for brands including Dove, Pond’s, Tanishq, Saffola, Idea Cellular and Relaxo. She also featured in magazines such as Vogue, FHM, Maxim, Elle and Femina.
